We are lucky and have a great grocery store right outside of our neighborhood, Harris Teeter. Harris Teeter was founded in 1960 by North Carolina grocers W.T. Harris and Willis Teeter. We love Harris Teeter and have been loyal customers since we moved to Hilton Head Island 6 years ago. Their Very Important Customer loyalty program is so good. I actually lost my card forever ago and have to give the cashier my phone number from 6 years ago. I should update this but my boys are always so excited to leave the grocery to ride Harry the Happy Dragon ride on the way out. It’s cute and they win.
Harris Teeter challenged me to create a meal plan for my happy dragon family for 10 dollars a day, and we did it. I love challenges that I win. Well I technically went over by ninety three cents but I still count this as a win.
The two main ways I succeeded at this challenge was by using Harris Teeter brand private label products and the Harris Teeter loyalty program VIC.
Monday – Brinner makes us all smile after long Mondays. We used Harris Teeter Cage Free Eggs & Pancake Mix to make amazing stacks of fluffy pancakes.
Tuesday – Taco Tuesday. We are vegetarians and substitute Harris Teeter Black Beans in the Harris Teeter Taco Kit.
Wednesday – Rice & Beans with fried plantains. Harris Teeter Whole Grain Rice with Beans makes such a filling meal. We pan fry plantains with it to give it a fun Cuban flair.
Thursday – Grilled apples & cheese sandwiches with tomato soup. Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup nights were my favorites as a kid and my kids love it too. We add carrot slices and apples to our sandwiches for a fun crunch.
Friday – Pasta Night (My favorite) It’s so easy to make Harris Teeter’s amazing Pasta sauces taste like you’ve been cooking all day. Here’s what you need :
- Harris Teeter HT Traders Pasta Sauce (We love Puttanesca at our house, but the marinara is so good too)
- Garlic, Onion, Olives
- Harris Teeter Feta for Puttanesca (or Mozzarella for Marinara)
- Harris Teeter Whole Wheat Pasta
- Olive Oil, Salt & Pepper
Saute’ the garlic and onions in olive oil for a few minutes, and add the sauce. Cook for an additional 5 mins. This super simple step of adding sautéed garlic and onions adds such a depth of flavor that you can totally pass off as home made pasta sauce. We love our pasta al’ dente with a little bit of a bite. So we cooked the Harris Teeter Fusilli for about 11 minutes, then tossed in Olive Oil. Top with the HT Traders Puttanesca Sauce, Sprinkle some feta and garnish with pretty olives. Such a simple gorgeous pasta dish for your entire family for under 10 dollars. You can even serve with a baguette from the Harris Teeter bakery and stay way under budget!
Your neighborhood Harris Teeter is not only a clean friendly grocery store, but also a totally affordable one. We bought 22 items for 50 dollars and fed our family for 5 days! The Harris Teeter Private Label products taste so good and are totally easy on your wallet.
Thank you Harris Teeter for challenging us to save money, with the holidays coming up we totally appreciate it.
