One of the greatest titles in the world is parent, and one of the biggest blessings in the world is to have parents to call mom and dad.

Jim DeMint

Matthew here,  that’s right I’m dad blogging too.    I take care of the cars at our house and I do the dishes.  I’m good for quite a few things.  But parenting is a compromise.  We share the duties and lessons.

Our parenting philosophy is simple, we want to raise good people.    But there are so many things we can teach the children as they grow up.   Amber & I want to teach the children so many things and instill morals and values in them.  Piper’s mother is smart and she’s going to teach her so many things in life.  But there are three things I want to teach her.

  1.  Keeping your checkbook balanced and being frugal is a skill.   Amber doesn’t possess this skill.  When I met her, she wouldn’t even look at price tags.  She would just put things in the shopping cart.   Piper will have to learn basic budgeting from me.    I’ve been slowly introducing her to budgeting with grocery shopping, chores, and wish lists.
  2. Basic Car Maintenance.  I’ve worked in mechanic shops and cannot tell you how many smart women know nothing about how their cars work.   Keeping the fluids checked, tires properly inflated, belts working, battery contacts clean, and spark plugs firing will save you headaches and keep your family safe.  Piper and I have been working on basic oil changes lately.
  3. Ask for help when you need it.  Amber is independent and thinks she can do everything on her own.  She can’t and she shouldn’t have to.  Piper has that same independent streak.  I want her to be able to ask for help whenever she may need it.   Whether it’s from a teacher, friends, or parents, people are here for her.

We partnered with Pennzoil and Walmart for this list of skills I can teach my daughter.   We use Pennzoil Platinum® High Mileage Full Synthetic for our Jeep.  When vehicles reach 75,000 miles, it’s time to make the switch to Pennzoil Platinum® High Mileage Full Synthetic motor oil with PurePlus® Technology for complete engine protection.   PurePlus® Technology uses a revolutionary process that converts natural gas into pure synthetic base oil.   Combining it with high performance additives means Pennzoil Platinum® High Mileage Full Synthetic Motor Oil is proven to deliver less oil burn off than conventional motor oils made from crude oil.   Additionally, Pennzoil Platinum® High Mileage keeps pistons up to 20% cleaner than the toughest industry standards to help keep the engines running clean and performing strong.   We buy our Pennzoil products at Walmart.    Walmart shopping options now include (1) delivery, (2) in-store pickup and (3) curbside pickup to make your life easier.

Pennzoil and Walmart have a special program going on now.  If you purchase two Pennzoil products at Walmart (any of the shopping options above) and upload your receipt you can get 10 Ticketmaster dollars to spend!   And Everyone who uploads their receipts in entered to win tickets to a Guns N’ Roses concert as part of their “Not In This Lifetime” tour!
